Half-day training course in Perth

Writing for the web

Write online content people can find, understand and use.

People rarely come online simply to read what an organisation wants to tell them. They arrive with a question, a need or something they are trying to do.

And the way they find that information is changing. They may arrive through a search engine, an AI-generated answer, voice search, a direct link or somewhere else entirely. Good web content needs to work wherever the journey begins.

Learn how to turn complex information into clear, useful web content that people can find, understand and act on. Discover how to make content easier to scan, more accessible and better structured for search and AI.

Who this course is for

This course is for anyone who writes, edits, reviews or manages content that people need to use online.

You might work in communications, customer service, content, digital, community engagement, service delivery or another part of the organisation. You don’t need to be a professional writer. If part of your work involves turning organisational information into something people need to find, understand or act on online, this course is for you.

What you’ll learn

Learn a practical approach to planning, writing and structuring online content so people can find what they need, understand it and take the next step.

Start with what people need

Work out what someone is trying to achieve, what they need to know and the questions they are likely to ask before deciding what information belongs on the page.

Structure information logically

Organise and layer information around the reader’s needs, putting the most useful information first and making more detailed content easy to navigate.

Make content easy to scan

Use descriptive headings, manageable sections, lists, links and other content structures to help people quickly find the part they need.

Write clearly and simply

Use plain English, familiar words, active voice and direct language to make complex information easier to understand without losing its meaning.

Make content work for more people

Make better choices about language, headings, links, formats and mobile content so the information is more accessible and inclusive.

Help people find it and move forward

Write meaningful links, useful calls to action and metadata that help people find the right information, understand the next step and continue their journey.

Learn from real experience

I’m Michelle Kember-Imrie. For more than 25 years, I’ve helped organisations turn complex information into clear, useful online content. That includes writing and restructuring large websites, improving how information is organised and working with teams across different business areas.

I’ve also seen how easily content can become difficult to use when it’s written around organisational structures and internal language rather than the needs of the people reading it.

I bring those experiences into the training room through real examples, practical exercises and techniques you can apply to your own content, whether you’re writing something new or improving what’s already there.

Useful handouts and resources you can take back to work and continue using, along with a certificate of attendance.

A warm, welcoming experience

I put care into creating an environment where people can settle in, feel comfortable and enjoy learning together.

And yes, there’ll be great food

I take this part seriously too. Scheduled courses include a scrumptious morning tea. In-house sessions include morning or afternoon tea to suit your timing, and I’ll happily cater for dietary requirements.
